Spilling My Feelings

I just wanted to say ‘Thank You’ again to all of my family, friends, readers and supporters. This has been a journey and what a journey it has been. I have some wonderful things in the works and if it wasn’t for you, it wouldn’t be possible. In a world where many people are afraid to speak their truths for fear of being punished, judged, or black balled for it, I embrace It.

I’ve said since day one that I’ve always marched to the beat of my own drum. Now, it’s a beat that’s beating louder and louder and because of that, more people are beginning to take notice.

To my fellow writers out there, pen the best story you can think of and don’t stop at nothing to make sure your story is read and heard! You owe it yourself and those who believe in you. I’m rooting for you too. When you elevate others, you elevate yourself.

Until next time…

Don’t Be Afraid To Wait (Sometimes)

I was due to appear in a few literary magazines and articles not too long ago, but I decided to delay my feature. Why? Because the timing didn’t feel right to me. It was a feeling deep down inside that I couldn’t shake and I felt strongly that I needed to wait. Thankfully, the people I’ve been in contact with and working with have been both patient and understanding.

Looking back, I’m glad I waited. You see, if I had of went ahead and did those features, I wouldn’t have hardly anything big to talk about (at that time) in regards to my accomplishments as an indie author. It’s a different story now (no pun intended). I have quite a few things I can acknowledge in my upcoming features, but I’ll only list two. The first one being that The Chronicles of Neffie is being considered as a book to read during Black History month at a few schools. The second one being my recent indieBRAG Medallion award for The Chronicles of Neffie in the category of historical fiction.

I can say from personal experience that there are times in your life where it’s okay for you to wait; even if you’re a little afraid to. I was and that’s the truth! If it’s meant to happen for you, it’ll happen and that opportunity will still be there for you when you’re ready. Don’t be afraid to trust your gut instincts and if the situation calls for it, seek out some helpful advice from someone you know and trust. I know I did.

Waiting turned out to be one of the best writing decisions I’ve ever made. Get used to seeing the name A.L. Gibson in the future. I’m going to leave it at that.

Until next time, keep being the best person you can possibly be as you continue to go after your dreams. Giving up is NOT an option.

It’s a precious gift. Will you waste it or cherish it? I would hope that you would cherish it. You can’t allow others to define your life; that privilege should belong to you and only you. Live your best life wisely.

Until next time…

Just Do It

Pursue your passion that is. Whatever it is that you are working towards or longing for, I sincerely hope that you achieve it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with bettering yourself now is it? Of course not. Who wouldn’t? Today while I was on break at work, I received some wonderful news. It took everything I had in me not to jump up and scream! Mind you, I had my headphones on blast while watching Crime Watch Daily on my phone. When I saw that message come across, I didn’t hear or see a thing after that. I couldn’t tell you what came on after Crime Watch Daily went off or what was going on around me because I was too focused on that. Despite all that, I was able to keep my composure and continued on throughout the day like I normally do. I did have to tell myself, ‘Nita, snap out of it!’ several times because it seemed so unreal…

BookingAnita encourages all of you to be the best person you can possibly be as you pursue your passion and your dreams. Don’t allow yourself to become so distracted that you allow needless interferences to get in your way. Have in mind what it is that you want to do and do it. You owe it to yourself and those that believe in you. BookingAnita is rooting for you! Make your name shine where it counts!

Follow Your Passion written on the road

Build It

Your platform that is. One of the hardest things for an independent writer to do is to build a good reader base. In a nutshell, it takes hard work, perseverance, determination and patience. I’ll be the first to admit that it can be overwhelming at times, but don’t be so quick to get discouraged. I can tell you from my personal experience that if you keep at it, your efforts will pay off in time. You can’t be afraid to put yourself out there because if you think developing a large reader base will happen on its own, you are sadly mistaken.

One thing that has been a big help to me is reaching out to well-respected book bloggers. If you are an independent writer, this is a definite must because a well-respected book blogger can get your book into the hands of many readers. I can’t tell you how many guest posts and blog interviews I’ve done in the past few weeks after I was able to convince several book bloggers to read my first novel series The Chronicles of Neffie. It’s a wonderful feeling to get an email from a book blogger inquiring if I will be willing to do a guest post or a blog interview after they read The Chronicles of Neffie. There is not enough words for me to describe the feeling that I get.

The Chronicles of Neffie Cover

Seeing how book bloggers are very busy themselves, I understand that it may take a few weeks for them to blog about my book, but I know like most writers that the wait is going to be worth it! Well-respected book bloggers hold a lot of weight in the book industry and they are sought after by both published and self-published authors. The ebook sales for The Chronicles of Neffie has been great thus far and it’s going steady. I couldn’t be more happier because my ebook is what I wanted promote first. I have several guest posts that are also pending in the next coming weeks and I’m excited and honored to be able to take part in such a wonderful opportunity.

If you are an independent writer, I urge you to write that amazing story of yours! Don’t you stop at nothing when it comes to getting that book of yours into the hands of many readers. Look at it this way, when you query a well-respected book blogger, they can say one of two things, ‘Yes‘ or ‘No‘. If one says ‘No‘, you move on to the next one. Eventually someone will give you a chance and who knows, you may get more than one to agree to review your book. How do I know? Well, I’m speaking from experience. Believe in yourself and your writing and don’t let anyone stop you, discourage you or get in your way.

Jada & Maya: An Inspirational Special Needs Story

Good Evening! I hope that each of you is doing well. You know I like to blog about inspirational stories and I have another one for you today. It’s about two beautiful fraternal twin girls named Jada and Maya. Keep reading because I have an adorable 2 minute clip of them to show you.

Jada suffered a stroke when she was an infant and as she was recovering from her stroke, the doctors found out that she had a rare non-verbal condition. In short, Jada can’t talk, but you can surmise how she is feeling based off of her facial expressions and the noises she makes. In addition to suffering a stroke as an infant and being non-verbal, Jada also has Ataxic Cerebral Palsy.

What makes this story so inspirational to me is the fact that Maya, Jada’s twin, looks after her and helps to care for her. She gives so much of love to her sister and even though Jada can’t talk, she gives that same love back. No words are needed.

When you watch the clip, notice how they look at each other towards the end. Ignore the nasty comments about them being half Black. Most of them have been removed. Jada and Maya are beautiful and so is their incredibly strong mother. Prepare to have your heart touched when you click here to see Jada and Maya in action.

If Only

June is just around the corner and as I begin to prepare for my appearance in a well-respected literary magazine, I can’t help but to wish my father was still here to see it. My mother is sooooooo proud and I have no doubt my father would be too. To see their youngest daughter appear in a well-respected literary magazine is something they couldn’t have imagined. Neither could I to be quite honest.

Am I bit nervous? Yes, but I’m more excited than anything else. If you were to have asked me 10 years ago could I see myself in a well-respected literary magazine, I would’ve quickly said NO. You see how life works? People can change and so can their circumstances. If only my father was still here to see it. That’s okay, I know I’ll be able to tell him one day ❤️.

Until next time, I’m wishing you all the best and much success! P.S. Don’t forget to smile!!
