WHO in the world counts words??? If you are a writer, you do. Why? Because depending on what you are aiming to write, your word count largely depends on it. For writers, the word length of your story can fall within a short story, a novelette, a novella or even a novel.
I am working on my second novel now and I can tell you honestly that when I penned my first novel Poka City Blues, I did not pay attention to the word count until I completely typed the full story. The editing came a little later. Only then was when I really noticed it. I was amazed when I typed up my first draft because I did not realize how much I had written over a period of three months. I was too focused on making sure that my story made sense and that it flowed well. A word count was the furthest thing from my mind LOL. Hey, I am just being honest.
Seeing that I like to write, writing a novel does not phase me. As a matter of fact, I prefer to pen novels. I guess what really helps me is my ability to type fast and how once I get a story or theme in mind, I let my fingers lead me. Any writer will tell you, once those creative juices start to flow, you hone in on it. I seem to get an adrenaline rush from mine KMSL!
So go on, tell your story and do not let a word count hold you back. If anything, embrace it because in my opinion, a writing challenge or any challenge makes you a better / stronger person.
Until next time…
